Deets: Philodendron hederaceum or Brasil is native to South America and is a patented heart-leaf philodendron. The leaves look like they are colored in strokes of yellow and green, and resemble the flag of Brasil, hence the common name. Philodendron Brasil, with it’s high contrast leaves and peach tone stems makes a stunning hanging basket or trailing plant. Can also be trained up walls and over windows for dramatic tropical effects. Tolerant of most light levels but does best in bright indirect light with a weekly watering. May benefit from added humidity or an occasional misting indoors.
Name(s): 'Brasil' Philodendron; Philodendron Hederaceum
Light: Prefers indirect sunlight, it will do well in almost any lighting condition (avoid direct sunlight as the leaves will burn). Even areas of low light can be fine, though the leaves will spread more and the colors won’t be as vibrant or glossy.
Water: This philodendron likes a moist environment. In summertime, keep the soil moist but not soggy. In the wintertime, allow the top half-inch of soil to dry between waterings. You can spritz the leaves with water and wipe them down with a cloth to remove dust.
Grower: Beginners, all types.
Pet Friendly: No. Toxic to pets.
Extra Deets: Often confused with Pothos, this variety is fairly tolerant and easy to care for. They are also a great indoor choice because they remove air-born toxins such as formaldehyde from the air.
