Deets: Crotons are great way to add color to your room. Often marked with bright yellow, orange, red, and even black, crotons are perfect for adding a tropical touch to indoor decor. They need direct light and love to be outside in the summer.
Names: Croton, Codiadeum variegatum, Garden Croton, Variegated Laurel, Joseph’s Coat, Variegated Croton
Light: Bright light with at least two or three hours of direct sunlight daily is necessary for good colouration. The normal leaf loss of older Codiaeum variegatum will be much increased in inadequate light.
Water: During the active growth period water plentifully – enough to keep the potting mixture thoroughly moist – but never allow pots to stand in water. In the rest period give only enough water to keep the potting mixture from drying out completely.
Grower: Intermediate
Pet Friendly: No.
Note: All parts of this plant are poisonous—especially the seeds—so it is not recommended for use in homes with curious pets or children. When damaged, croton produce a milky sap that can be irritating to the skin, too.
